To balance the undue adulation of AFL players through scrutiny of their negative off-field behaviour.
Rumours, allegations, mockery.
I live in football town, a hundred metres from the hallowed 'G. The accelerating deterioration of player standards off-field has corresponded with a massive rise in their status and prestige. Coccooned within the cult of celebrity and a fawning media, these favoured sons of my city live in a moral bubble divorced from reality.
Footballers are not bad and stupid per se: the sinister mix of tribalism and commercialism that permeates their industry shamelessly exploits these often uneducated young men for its own ends.
These pages serve to chronicle the inevitable fall-out from too much easy money and fame too quickly as a reminder that all-too-often, these heroes have feet of clay.
